How Overlay Diff Works

The Overlay Diff feature uses HTML5 Canvas compositing math to create a visual change heat-map. Both pages are rendered to canvases at the same scale. For the diff view, PDF A is drawn normally, then PDF B is composited on top using the difference blend mode. Where both pages are identical, pixel values cancel to near-black (zero difference). Where they differ, values produce bright, colorful pixels — making every changed area immediately visible.

Step-by-Step: How to Compare Two PDFs

Open the Compare PDF Tool

Visit gsdocseva.com/compare-pdf.html. Two upload slots labeled PDF A and PDF B are immediately visible.

Upload Both PDFs

Click PDF A slot (original version) and upload your first file. Click PDF B slot (revised version) and upload your second file. You can drag-and-drop into both slots. Both files are processed locally.

Start the Comparison

Navigate Pages in Sync

Comparing PDFs with Different Page Counts

If PDF A has 12 pages and PDF B has 15 pages, navigation allows you to browse up to page 15. Pages beyond PDF A's count show a placeholder panel. Use the individual per-panel navigation buttons (the smaller ← → under each canvas) to browse beyond the shared range independently.
